1. Processes and terminology

   The defined terms and process identities Part A scores directly. Shop nicknames pick the distractor.

2. Metallurgy and weldability

   Heat, cooling, and the discontinuities that are metallurgical rather than workmanship.

   • Hydrogen, cleanliness and delayed cracking

3. Symbols, drawings and documents

5. Safety, calculations and exam habits

   Closed-book items that still have a method: electrical safety, ventilation, and the few calculations Part A still uses.

   • Eye protection and the process that changes the filter
   • Fillet-weld size and throat as a picture, not a memorised formula

6. Mixed review and the three-part exam

   Start with the official source links below. Record the current outline, permitted references, eligibility rules, and any application steps that apply to your route.

2. 02

   Map the reference set

   Turn each published domain into a retrieval map. Practice where to look before trying to memorize isolated answers.

3. 03

   Build the CWI Part A core

   Study welding processes, terminology, and symbols alongside metallurgy, discontinuities, and inspection methods, then connect both to field decisions and documentation.

4. 04

   Practice under controlled timing

   Use short lookup drills first, then mixed review. Track missed concepts and slow retrievals separately so each can be corrected.

5. 05

   Recheck before exam day

   Return to the credentialing body for last-minute policy or reference changes. Do not rely on a third-party summary for current exam administration.
